The Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) is the world’s main provider of data on organized violence and the oldest ongoing data collection project for civil war, with a history of almost 40 years. Its definition of armed conflict has become the global standard of how conflicts are systematically defined and studied. The basic unit of analysis for the UCDP (Uppsala Conflict Data Program) GED dataset is the “event”, an individual incident (phenomenon) of lethal violence occurring at a given time and place. The UCDP Candidate Events Dataset (UCDP Candidate) is based on UCDP Georeferenced Event Dataset (UCDP GED), but published at a monthly release cycle. It makes available monthly releases of candidate events data with not more than a month’s lag for all of Africa and Middle East.
